Cheaper Auto Insurance For Young Drivers in Nebraska
Reader’s Question:
Why is insurance for young drivers too expensive? My daughter is applying for one and all the insurance quotes she’s getting reveals too high rates for her taste. Thanks
Marjorie
Omaha, NE
Insurance for young drivers has traditionally been more expensive compared to those of elder drivers. Insurance companies have been strict when it comes to rating insurance for teenage drivers since young drivers are more prone to committing mistakes on the road that can result to car accidents, injuries and damages.
Another reason why insurance for young drivers is expensive is because young drivers do not have a lengthy driving record to speak of. This is a result, of course, of the short time they have as drivers. But since automobile insurance companies put premium on the driving tendencies and skills of their policy holders, young drivers are at the raw end of the deal, and thus have to pay more for their vehicle insurance.
Yet another factor which contributes to higher insurance rates for young drivers is the fact that they usually drive unsafe vehicles like sports cars. It is not surprising that car insurance companies charge highly on their insurance coverage since sports cars are known to be involved in a lot of road accidents.
18 Year Old Teen Driver Insurance in Washington
Reader’s Question:
I am only 18 years old and I am just wondering what is the best insurance plan to go with if you are a teenager and you are just about to get your drivers license in Washington?
Tom
Vancouver, WA
Almost every state including the state of Washington requires you to purchase a minimum amount of liability coverage. Chances are that you will need more liability insurance than the state requires since accidents cost more than the minimum amount limits. If you are found legally responsible for damages that are more than your auto insurance insurance policy covers, you will have to pay the difference out of your own pocket. These bills could wipe you out! You must consider how much you stand to lose or have the potential to lose (as you are still young). You may want to purchase as much coverage as you feel comfortable with and a car insurance coverage that you can afford.
16 Year Old Teen Car Insurance in Wyoming
Reader’s Question:
I have a 16 year old teen and she wants to start driving but I can’t afford car insurance so can she drive a car that is under my name and her mother’s name if she gets her license. Does she need to have insurance right when she obtains her license in Wyoming?
Jim
Cheyenne, WY
According to the Wyoming’s mandatory auto liability insurance law, anyone operating a motor vehicle must satisfy the state’s financial responsibility limits of 25/50/20.
In addition to that, under the Wyoming financial responsibility law, liability policy means an owner’s or an operator’s policy of liability insurance, certified as proof of financial responsibility, and issued by an insurance company authorized to do business in this state, to or for the benefit of the individual named as insured.
Plus, when your teen daughter is getting a license, since she is under 18, you as the parents will need to sign a minor’s release form. Part of this form may include being responsible for the minor while he is operating a vehicle or keeping insurance coverage so find out from the WY DOT exactly what the release form states.
Young Driver Auto Insurance With Traffic Tickets
Reader’s Question:
When I was 16 and before I even got my driver’s license, I got a ticket for reckless driving, another ticket for not stopping after getting involved in an accident, and another ticket for speeding. It has been five years already. I want to find out if these tickets will affect my car insurance?
Marian
Stamford, CT
For the most part, these kind of situation will not affect your quest to buy car insurance. Most of the insurance providers only research the last 3 years on your motor vehicle record. There are some insurance providers that will research the last five years on your motor vehicle record. There is an extremely small minority of insurance carriers that will research the last 7 years of your motor vehicle history. Again, that is an extremely small number of companies. You may contact your car insurance company to verify how long they check back for motor vehicle driving record
New Female Teen Driver Auto Insurance
Reader’s Question:
Will my car insurance rate be high since I am a new teen driver, 23 years old and female?
Kelly
Baton Rouge, LA
Insurance providers in most states are permitted to have their own rating system. These providers usually look at many factors when determining a car insurance rate, experience of the motorist can be once such factor. Age is also a factor when determining car insurance premium.
If you are a newly licensed teen motorist at age 23 then your rates will be higher than others that have been driving for almost ten years already however it may not be as high as a newly licensed driver at 16, since you may be thought of by insurance companies as more mature. Maturity to an insurers means less likely to operate a vehicle in a reckless manner. The insurance premium will likely though still be higher than another 23 year old female that has been driving for a few years because this individual has a driving record for the insurance provider to check.
What you can do as a new teen driver is to shop around for insurance rates since, different insurers have different rating standards.
Auto Insurance for Teens – Driving With No Insurance?
Reader’s Question:
I want to know what will happen if I get pulled over and I have no insurance? I’m under the age of 18 and I live in KY.
Jane
Newark, NJ
The State of Kentucky requires all drivers to carry liability coverage in the amounts of 25/50/10. The penalties for operating a vehicle without Kentucky auto insurance can be rather severe. First offense that you are caught, you will need to go to court and can be fined between $500 to $1000 or be imprisoned for not more than 90 days or both.
Your KY auto registration and license plates can be suspended for one year or until proof of auto insurance is provided. It is also possible that you will lose your license for up to a year. The penalties will increase for each subsequent infraction of not having proper proof of auto insurance.
If you do not yet have your full Kentucky license because of the graduated licensing system and being under 18, there may be other penalties.
18 Year Old Teen Driver – How Long am I Covered on Parents Auto Insurance?
Reader’s Question:
Hi Im 18years old. I just want to know how long should a new driver covered under their parents insurance policy after they get their license?
Gene
Thank you for asking Gene.
A new driver actually may not be automatically covered under their parent’s policy once they get their license.
A new driver may first have to be listed on their parents policy declaration’s page. Your parent need to contact their insurance agency first and you will have to be added or endorsed to their policy. Once you have obtained your driver’s license you should be added to the policy although some policies cover those driver’s with restricted license.
If you are listed on your parent’s or guardian’s policy, you should be covered on that policy until you are removed from the policy. I would suggest that you contact your parent’s insurance company to verify if you are include in their policy and what procedures you need to do to remove yourself from the policy. It is likely that you should stay on the policy if you live in the household.
Goodluck!

Will My Teen Driver Be Covered on My Auto Insurance
Reader’s Question:
Will my 17-year old boy be covered in case of accident if I have a full policy coverage on my car insurance?
Yolanda
Thank you for asking.
If you have the liability and physical damage liability, you son may be covered. I would suggest that you speak with your insurance company and make sure you review the terms and exclusions on your policy as well as the details about having a teenager included in the coverage.
If a seventeen year old boy is included in the household for instance, it is your responsibility to inform your insurance company that the teenager is licensed and must be added to the policy as a driver so that proper coverage will be on that person.
If on the other hand the teen is not a member of the household, you will need to speak to your insurance agent to make sure that he will be covered. You may also read through the terms on your policy because some policies may have exclusions for drivers under certain age . Other exclusions also limits the coverage on those that borrows your vehicle.
If you found out that your son is not covered and will be needing to get car insurance, you may speak with your current insurance agent to find out how you can extend the policy to your son.
Goodluck!

Auto Insurance For Teens With Learners Permit?
Reader’s Question:
What happens if I only have a learners permit and I got involved in an accident. I live in Indiana.
Tina
Thank you for asking Tina.
The extent of driving privileges according to Indiana Driver’s Manual with an learners permits depends upon the age of the driver. If the holder is less than 18 years of age, he may practice driving only while the front passenger seat is occupied by the parent or guardian, step parent or other relative with a valid driver’s license in his possession.
If the holder is at least 18 years of age, he may practice driving only while the front passenger seat is occupied by any individual with a valid driver license in his possession.
Under any circumstances, Indiana does not allow you to drive with a learner’s permit. If you are complying with the restrictions of your learner’s permit and get involved in an accident, it does not appear that there are penalties for getting in an accident.
To make sure, you may contact the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The consequences if you got involved in an accident if you are driving with a licensed guardian is not different from any one else with a licensed driver who got involved in an accident. You will likely to be facing with ticket for driving without a license and possible fees if you were not driving with a licensed adult.
A learner’s permit violation is worth four points and an administrative hearing may be required, according to Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Goodluck!

How Much Will Teen Auto Insurance Cost To Add To My Policy?
Reader’s Question:
Can you give me a range on how much will my car insurance go if I add a new teenager driver?
Rachel
Good Question Rachel.
Adding a teen driver on the policy will definitely cost you more since they have a high rates of accidents since they are newly licensed compared to experiences drivers who is more prone to avoid accidents than cause it.
It will actually depends on what your insurance rates already if you want to know the cost of adding a teenager on your policy. Other factor that may also affect your ate is the geographical location. For instance, it will cost you more on your premiums if you live in the congested area that your teen is more likely to get involved in an accident than in a rural area.
If a teenager has taken a formal driving lessons or a driver’s education, he may be able to get discount, If you also have a teen that maintains a higher GPA, this may cut the cost for auto insurance.
Generally, adding a teenager may cost $1200 up to $2500 a year. a minor may expect to pay 2.5 times the base rate of their insurance. Depending on the state where you reside, studies show that if you add a teenager on your insurance policy, your rates may go up 50-200%.
You may speak with your insurance agent about what your new premiums would be if you add a teenager in your policy. You may shop around to check which insurance company can give you a lower rate if you add a teenager.
Goodluck!
